RUNWAY 12R/30L RECONSTRUCTION IS COMPLETE:

Runway 12R/30L has been completely reconstructed and is now 7,002 ft long, 150 ft wide, and capable of supporting aircraft up to 200,000 lbs. The runway lighting system was replaced with a new high intensity lighting system and precision approach path indicators (PAPIs) are located at both ends.

TAXIWAY B2: THE SOUTH HALF (400 FT.) OF TAXIWAY B2 BETWEEN B AND B1 IS CLOSED.

TAXIWAY B2, BETWEEN B AND RUNWAY 12R/30L HAS BEEN REMOVED. (Due to the FAA's long-lead time for publication cycles, the new airfield diagram will not reflect the changes until Feb. 2012 at the earlies.)

RUNWAY GROOVING HAS BEEN COMPLETED.

The grooving machine is tethered to a water supply and disposal truck. Water is used to cool the rotating cutting wheels and is then vacuumed up along with the residue for disposal, leaving a clean grooved runway surface behind.

The photo above shows the water in and out tethers and the machine operators station on the side.

A look inside the "cockpit."

Cutting in progress.

The finished pavement with a quarter coin for size perspective.

Here's a good example of why we groove. The water truck just flushed the pavement with water. Note the standing water on the ungrooved pavement and the nearly dry pavement that has been grooved.
