IMPORTANT NOTICES TO AIRMEN

CHECK WITH FSS AND ATC BEFORE ENGAGING IN ANY FLIGHT ACTIVITIES
TO OBTAIN THE MOST CURRENT STATUS OF THE NATIONAL AIRSPACE SYSTEM

  • RUNWAY 12R VASIs Decommissioned.
  • Various taxiway intersections may be closed for short periods for painting
  • Taxiway Holding Position Lines are missing at the following intersections:
B-2 at Rwy12R/30L
A-3 and B-3 at Rwy 12L/30R
A-4 and B-4 at Rwy 12L /30R

Use caution for pavement marking crews working throughout the entire airport during the month of May. All airport markings are being repainted and new enhanced taxiway centerline markings and surface painted holding position markings are being added at all holding positions. When approaching one of these new hold lines, you will begin to see dashed yellow lines on both sides of the taxiway centerline 150 feet before reaching the hold line. Where hold lines are located on short taxiways, the centerline will be enhanced beginning at the arc turning onto that taxiway. Red and white signs will also be painted on the left side of the taxiways just short of the holding position lines to indicate the runway lurking ahead. These surface painted signs will have white runway numbers on a red background.

To complete all the painting, we will be closing small sections of the taxiways a few hours at a time and rerouting traffic while painting is in progress. The primary runway will be NOTAM’ed closed in no more than 4-hour increments so as not to disrupt normal operations any more than absolutely necessary.

Help us spread the word to other pilots that our frequencies will be changing and watch for the frequency changeover--the date may move slightly.

HIGH DENSITY HELICOPTER OPERATIONS IN THE AREA

St. Louis Downtown Airport is home to a multitude of helicopters including all St. Louis area news and traffic helicopters, mulitple helicopter charter and flight instruction businesses, scenic tour helicopters and several privately owned helicopters. Most operate from the northwest corner of the airport and make frequent flights to and from St. Louis daily. There are several heliports throughout the city including those at the Gateway Arch Riverfront, Anheuser Busch Brewery, Arch Aeromedical Helicopters, and the many hospitals in the area. Additionally, traffic and news helicopters operate over the main highways and news scenes and tour helicopters conduct scenic flights around the St. Louis area. All helicopters operating within the airport's Class D airspace should be in contact with Downtown Tower. Use caution to see and avoid them.

TEMPORARY FLIGHT RESTRICTION FOR SPORTING EVENTS

The St. Louis Cardinals' Busch Stadium, the St. Louis Rams Edward Jones Dome, and the Gateway International Raceway are protected by TFRs during sporting events.  Both stadiums are located in downtown St. Louis, approximately 3 miles from the airport.  The raceway is located 5 miles north of the airport. The airport remains open during these times, however pilots must be in contact with ATC.
