St. Louis Downtown Airport's
New Air Traffic Control Tower



Tower construction is substantially complete and final equipment installation is underway. The tower is scheduled to become operational approximately June 21, 2008. When it does become operational, all new ATC frequencies will be in use.

JULY 17, 2006
Molla Drive (the tower access road) is in use as a construction road and
all the pilings for the tower structure have been driven down to bedrock.

August 9, 2006
Below grade work is underway.

August 15, 2006
Foundation of the base building is rising from the ground.

August 22, 2006
The administrative base building's north wall is up.

August 29, 2006
The admin building continues to grow.

Sept. 12, 2006
The walls are complete and the roof trusses are up.

Sept. 16, 2006

Sept. 21, 2006
The tower structure is beginning to rise.

Oct. 3, 2006
Fall is turning the soybeans golden yellow and the tower structure has risen above the height of the existing tower.

Nov. 2, 2006: We've reached cab height!

Nov. 17, 2006

Nov. 22, 2006: The Cab is being constructed on the ground.

Nov. 29, 2006: Cab progress continues.

The cab is being built on the ground and will be lifted to the top in mid-December.


Dec. 4: Soybeans have been replaced by snow but construction continues ahead of schedule.

Dec. 5: The exterior shaft walls begin to enclose the tower's skeleton.

Dec. 20: We're ready to set the cab on top on Jan. 2nd

Jan. 2: The cab is lifted to the top of the shaft.

Feb. 12: Project now 57% completed with roofing, elevator, and interior work underway.

Aug. 17: Final interior touch-up painting underway.
